BRS leader K Kavitha meets former Telangana Chief Minister KCR following her release from custody

Erravalli (Telangana), August 29: Bharat Rashtra Samithi leader K Kavitha met with her father and former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in Eravalli on Thursday. This was the first meeting between Kavitha and KCR since her release from jail.

The Supreme Court had granted Kavitha bail in connection with the alleged 'excise policy case' filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). She was released from Tihar jail on Tuesday following the court's decision.

Following her release, Kavitha stated, "History has consistently shown that truth will prevail. In my case, history has repeated itself—truth and justice will prevail. We will continue our fight both politically and legally. We will approach the people and continue our efforts. India has always upheld justice and truth, and I am confident that I will be cleared of all charges."

The Supreme Court imposed several conditions on Kavitha, including prohibitions on tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses. She was also required to post a bail bond of Rs 10 lakh for each of the CBI and ED cases and to surrender her passport. The court noted that Kavitha had been incarcerated for five months and that the trial would be lengthy, with 493 witnesses and numerous documents. The court also mentioned that the case relies heavily on statements from co-accused who have been granted pardon and turned approvers.

The ED and CBI had alleged that irregularities occurred in the modification of the excise policy, including undue benefits to license holders, waiver or reduction of license fees, and unauthorized extensions of the L-1 license.
