Drenched and desperate! Hinjawadi techies urge govt to declare WFH

Pune: With torrential monsoon rains and water logging caused due to the same, Pune’s Hinjawadi IT Park has turned into a flooded mess, which has caused the "frustrated" IT professionals to demand the Maharashtra government to declare mandatory work-from-home (WFH) during this monsoon season.

The reason, they shared, is not just inconvenience but the IT professionals claimed that they are fed up with waterlogged roads, bumper-to-bumper traffic, and daily chaos that makes commuting unbearable.

“Hence, we have taken to social media with our pleas,” said one employee adding, “and even tagged top leaders including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, and Industries Minister Uday Samant on social media hoping our voices will be heard.”

The Forum of IT Employees (FITE), which has spearheaded the campaign, has been actively sharing videos of flooded streets and stranded vehicles to highlight the gravity of the situation, said Pawanjeet Mane, representative of FITE.

FITE also posted on social media saying, “If you care at all for IT employees, declare mandatory work-from-home for Hinjawadi until the rains are over.”

However, with no relief in sight and commutes turning into daily nightmares, techies have now asked--"Why risk lives when WFH is possible?"

It remains to be seen whether their pleas will be heard.
