Press Conference by AICC: NSUI Demands Supreme Court-Level Investigation into NEET Exam and Results
New Delhi, June 7, 2024 — In a press conference organized by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) demanded an urgent and comprehensive Supreme Court-level investigation into the conduct and results of the NEET exam. This call to action follows serious allegations and irregularities related to the recent NEET examination and the results published by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
NSUI National Incharge, Kanhaiya Kumar, stated: "Today, students are committing suicide. Who is responsible? Today, even after scoring 600 marks, the student is confused about whether they will get a seat or not. Who is responsible for this? We demand that this NEET scam of NTA should be investigated by the highest judicial authorities, and the students affected by this exam should be given proper justice, even if the exam has to be conducted again."
NSUI National President, Shri Varun Choudhary, highlighted key concerns: "According to the established pattern of the NEET exam, it is inconceivable for candidates to secure scores of 719 or 718 marks. Yet, these scores appear on the scorecards released by the NTA, raising significant doubts about the integrity of the results." The pattern of the NEET exam makes it highly improbable to achieve scores like 719 or 718. The release of such scores by the NTA suggests possible manipulation or discrepancies. Additionally, the occurrence of more than five top rankers from the same exam center is statistically suspicious and warrants a thorough investigation.
The results were announced hurriedly during election result coverage, possibly to divert attention from the irregularities. This strategic timing raises concerns about transparency and intent. By entrusting crucial exams like JEE, NEET, NET, and CUET to a private organization like NTA, the Modi government has shown a preference for the privatization of education. This move is seen as an injustice to underprivileged students, as privatization often leads to inequities. There were multiple allegations of the NEET paper being leaked, with instances of the paper appearing on social media platforms. Despite police arrests in several states, no concrete actions were taken against the responsible parties.
The current scenario has led to widespread confusion and distress among students. Even those who scored as high as 600 marks are uncertain about securing a seat, leading to extreme measures such as student suicides. This crisis necessitates immediate intervention. NSUI demands a Supreme Court-level investigation into the NEET scam allegations, accountability for the NTA and all involved parties, and justice for the students affected by these irregularities, including the possibility of conducting the NEET exam afresh if necessary.
NSUI firmly believes that the future of our students and the integrity of our educational system are paramount. We urge the government and relevant authorities to address these serious concerns and ensure a fair and transparent process for all examinations.
