NSUI Strongly Opposes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Statement on Mahatma Gandhi

NSUI Strongly Opposes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Statement on Mahatma Gandhi

New Delhi, [30 May 2024] – The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) vehemently opposes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent statement claiming that no one had any idea about Mahatma Gandhi. This assertion undermines the profound global impact and widespread recognition of Gandhi’s contributions to nonviolent resistance and the Indian independence movement.

As the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of Satyagraha have inspired global leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. His legacy is celebrated worldwide, and his teachings are integral to movements for civil rights and social justice.

Varun Choudhary, NSUI National President, stated, “Prime Minister Modi’s remarks are not only inaccurate but also disrespectful to the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi’s influence is evident globally, and his contributions to peace and nonviolence are universally recognized. We urge the Prime Minister to retract his statement and honor Gandhi’s universally acknowledged legacy.”

We urge Prime Minister Modi to retract his statement and honor Gandhi’s universally acknowledged legacy. NSUI remains committed to upholding and promoting the values Gandhi stood for: truth, nonviolence, and justice.
