PCMC workers say “enough is enough,” demand action, not empty promises

PCMC workers say “enough is enough,” demand action, not empty promises

Pimpri Chinchwad: As the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections loom, lakhs of labourers, factory workers, and industrial employees have made it clear--votes will go only to those who bring real change, not hollow promises.

Speaking to National Bulletin, Dr Raghunath Kuchik, deputy leader of Shiv Sena UBT and general secretary of Bharatiya Kamgar Sena, warned, “Workers will not be fooled by empty assurances anymore. Candidates must present a worker-centric manifesto with a clear action plan. Words mean nothing without implementation.

For decades, Pimpri Chinchwad has thrived on the sweat and toil of its residents. Yet, many workers still struggle with irregular wages, poor civic amenities, and limited access to quality healthcare and education. “We do not want speeches. We want results,” said Ramesh Patil, a factory worker in Chinchwad. “Safe transport, proper hospitals, good schools for our children; these are not luxuries. These are our rights.”

Workers’ unions claimed that political leaders must stop the rhetoric and focus on boosting local employment, protecting industrial zones, and strengthening skill development programmes for youth. Affordable housing, clean water, proper sanitation, street lighting, and reliable transport remain urgent, non-negotiable demands. For women workers and unorganised labourers, access to specialised healthcare and social security is critical.

Dr Kuchik also stressed that municipal hospitals must be well equipped, with immediate medical aid for accident affected workers and specialised facilities for women. “We demand, education and digital learning for workers’ children, along with registration and social security programmes for unorganised labour like construction, contract, gig, and domestic workers; they must also be prioritized.”

He added, “Only a worker-centric manifesto backed by implementation can earn their vote.” Regular dialogue with unions, inclusion of workers’ representatives in municipal decisions, and a corruption-free administration are non negotiable, he said.
